Great surprise ending! Nov 12, Kinsey rated it liked it. Not my favorite of Roald Dahl's adult short fiction. But a solidly crafted story. A very good short story built around an excellent premise.
Sadly its rather rushed ending and its failure to really delve deep into any of the characters or settings means I'll give it three stars. Mar 03, Kmoroz added it. I highly recommend both. Mar 01, Maria Ri rated it it was amazing Shelves: library-book , audio , general-fiction , read-in , overdrive-library-audiobook. Roald Dahl's dark sense of humor come shining through again in this audio of his short story written for adults. My son and I read the biography of Roald Dahl for school as they were doing a series of Dahl books. The biography was surprisingly interesting so the short story caught my eye when I saw it on the library app. Nice little short story with two absolutely unappealing characters and a dirty little trick.
Great details and a fun ending. I'll make sure to look for more adult Dahl books now! May 08, Helen Hayhurst rated it really liked it. Listened to this as an audiobook while out on a walk. It's only 45min long so i was able to listen start to finish. It was relatively obvious from the beginning that the ending must be something along the lines of what it turned out to be, so no big surprises, but the journey to get there was thoroughly enjoyable!

This was a fun short story. Thank you audiobooks for making chores lighter. The 2 main characters aren't what they seem. They are actually a couple of seedy, cheeky, con-artists. This story made me chuckle. Mar 03, Linda rated it really liked it.
I wanted to read some Dahl books that were not for children. This one is short. I would call it a novella. It is an unusual story about a bookseller, but really that business is a front for more nefarious activities. I enjoyed it just because it was so different.
